Side Effect Management
Cancer treatment can affect many parts of the body, and side effects may continue or appear even after treatment ends. Fem Survivorship is here to help you understand these changes and support your recovery with expert care, practical tools, and compassionate guidance. You don’t have to face these symptoms alone.
-
Fatigue
-
Fatigue is one of the most common and persistent side effects after cancer treatment. It can be overwhelming and affect your ability to work, concentrate, or enjoy daily life. We help you manage fatigue through personalized strategies that may include energy conservation techniques, light exercise plans, improved sleep habits, and nutritional support.
-
-
Nausea and Vomiting
-
Some survivors continue to experience nausea or digestive discomfort after treatment, even if chemotherapy has ended. Our team can help identify possible triggers and offer dietary guidance, medications, or integrative therapies to reduce symptoms and improve your appetite and overall comfort.
-
-
Appetite and Weight Changes
-
Treatment can affect your appetite and lead to weight gain or weight loss. Whether you’re struggling to maintain nutrition, feeling full quickly, or experiencing cravings or weight changes related to hormone therapy, we offer personalized nutrition support and referrals to oncology dietitians to help you feel balanced and well-nourished.
-
-
Lymphedema
-
Swelling in the arms, legs, or pelvic region can develop after lymph node removal or radiation. Our program connects you with certified lymphedema therapists who provide gentle massage (manual lymph drainage), compression garments, exercise, and education to help manage symptoms and reduce discomfort.
-
-
Neuropathy
-
Tingling, numbness, or pain in the hands and feet—known as peripheral neuropathy—can linger after chemotherapy or surgery. This can affect daily activities, balance, and safety. We work with physical therapy and supportive care providers to help you reduce symptoms and regain function.
-
-
Hormonal and Menopausal Symptoms
-
Many survivors experience treatment-induced menopause or hormone-related side effects. These may include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness, and difficulty sleeping. We provide education and symptom management strategies tailored to your preferences, including both hormonal and non-hormonal options.
-
-
Sexual Health and Pelvic Discomfort
-
Some survivors experience bone loss or joint pain as a result of hormone therapy or early menopause. We offer bone density screening, lifestyle guidance, exercise recommendations, and medication when appropriate to protect your bone health and keep you moving comfortably.
-
-
Bladder and Bowel Changes
-
Pelvic surgeries and radiation can cause long-term changes in bladder or bowel habits, including urgency, leakage, or constipation. We help connect you with pelvic floor therapy and lifestyle support to improve function and comfort.
-
-
Skin and Tissue Changes
-
Radiation and surgery can lead to skin sensitivity, scar tissue tightness, and limited range of motion. We work closely with physical therapy providers who offer scar mobilization, gentle stretching, and education to improve mobility and reduce discomfort.
-
Physical side effects after cancer treatment can be frustrating, but they are also manageable. Fem Survivorship is here to help you recover at your own pace, with access to expert providers, personalized care plans, and resources that support your body’s healing. Our team is here to support your recovery, answer your questions, and help you feel better in your body again.
